Can someone explain to me the reasoning for the “invite” part of the late model race this Saturday. After reading the news section of the website the only people allowed to enter are the top ten in points from Adirondack this year, as well as “invited” track champions from various tracks. With the absence of other track champions (which I am guessing most likely will not make the trip) this 100 lap race will be with 10 cars?
Why not open the race to all, and see how many cars you can get. Seems logical that the bigger car count, the more money the track makes, better racing, happier fans, happier racers, more payout, everyone wins. Aren’t there a lot of tracks that are done with their points around the state? Why not invite all the late models from those areas to give AIS a try. Excluding race cars that are sitting in a garage with no where to run seems to make no sense. Even the “Race of Champions” at Oswego speedway, the biggest late model race in this area, is not an invite only. They realize they need a large car count to fill the stands, and their pockets.
I checked the top ten in points from this year for the late models. 11th and 12th are Scoville and Bancroft. These are two teams that have supported AIS and this class and more importantly this facility for years, and now they are told they are not invited to the big end of the year race?
It isn’t a secret that the car counts in the late models are getting smaller, but why make it a rule to ensure that they stay low? Why not open it up, have a big, full field, “renegade 100” to cap the year, give the fans a hell of a show with lots of cars, rather than 10 cars taking the green. D&D Powersports, a huge supporter of the speedway, deserves to have a great show put on for them for stepping up and supporting this race. I think this should be changed to allow for that.
