we ran a set of 970's at sl2 for a race last year that the guy we bought our car from just threw on the car so we could put it on the trailer and they held up great on the concrete. they really didnt show any wear. i like the idea of running a wider slick. but like others, we have 2 perfectly good "bricks" with only 2 races on them. so my idea is to buy up as many 880's as needed and have us start the season with them and throughout the season allow teams to buy the 970's one at a time with the choice of using them now or later and slowly transition to a new tire. that way teams can use up what they have and than transition into a new tire. all teams need to eventually buy new tires no matter how "broke" they say they are and this would put a "tire strategy" into the mix. you could put the new tire on one at a time or wait untill you could buy 2 and use them as right sides. or wait untill you can buy all 4 and have 4 fresh 970's. i think that would make it fun (and fair) for teams that do their homework. hey, its just another idea to throw up into the air (or create a heated discussion). make it a whole season long transition allowing teams to run the 880's all season long and allowing the 970's only when they are brought in throughout the season and by the end of the season, you could run ether tire and you could take a drivers vote as to what tire should be run for the 2011 season. the same idea should apply for all classes facing a tire change.

I think we are going to end up running whatever the track can make the most money selling us, I just wish they would make a choice and go with it so we can get our chassis set up on the tires we will run on,

Once again Scott are you even sure the track is going to sell tires or will a dealer be at the track to do it? Maybe you should call Greg and talk to him before you make the assumtion that the track is trying to make all the money it can. You can't keep posting missleading comments on here and expect people not to get upset with you when the final decisions are made. You seem to have some good ideas but my question is how many of your ideas or comments are you talking to Greg about. Rant and rave all you want Greg doesn't read this forum.

Sorry Randy , I just assumed when the rules said "track tire to be announced" the tires would have to be purchased at the track, just like Adirondack rules , Oswego rules and Evans mills last time we ran there, isn't that why they called it a track tire not a spec tire?, ,I guess it was wrong to assume a business would be in business to make money , according to hoosier tire and two of the hoosier distribuitors the 890s we were on are still going to be available for the 2010 season so it seems like a no brainer to stay with them unless there is a dollar to be made with another supplier, again just an assumption. didnt mean to ruffle any feathers.

$100 = HOOSIER 970 = Awesome Traction/Low Wear/Stick like Glue

$60 = American Racer/Goodyear + $100 Track Claw = $160 EA= fast wearing/driving on ice (cheap)

I've got a set of 970's with 8 nights on them. They have an excellent wear pattern, have feathered nicely, are easy to read (camber). These tires have been sitting for a year and still feel soft. We will have a tire bill that is well under $1000 per race season. The bottom line is the cars will be faster, the track will rubber up nicely, the tires will last, I could go on and on!!! The 970's actually get faster after they get a couple of heat cycles in them.

Look around the country just about every pro-stock class is on 970's.

Hey Randy. Spoke To Greg on Saturday at the show. only other thing I see that might be an issue is frame hight. If they want the crossmembers to be 5". That would mean my front frame hights will be around 7 to 7 1/2 on the corners.I'll have to forfit untill I can get new springs to raise the truck up.I know a lot of other guys where the cross member is lower to the ground as well. I'm not singling any one , for those of You that of course know the story. I mean everybody. I have to get the cob webs out of the garage and get the tires pumped up to find out. I'll let Ya know.

The rules say track tire to be announced under sport compacts, just wondering if a decision was made or not

Ray the only truck with a crossmember question that I know of is Gregs #22. I've talked to him and it isn't a problem to fix. The suspension was lowered and yours being stock height won't be a problem. Keep in mind this is not a change to Paul's rules but rather a clarification of the rule that was a bit confusing to say the least. Greg was very understanding and stated he'd comply with no problem.

Randy. My truck is not stock height. thats the problem. I cut the front coils to get it down to make the frame 5" on the front corners within legal height and to make it corner better. I'm pretty sure that my front cross member is lower than the corners of the frame. I know the cross member has never been moved, just the front springs were modified. Only way I could get it to lower. I'll defanatly let You know when I can get to the truck and start to work on it.
