Thunder Alley Classes?

Postby Todd on Thu Dec 03, 2009 8:55 pm

I thought this subject needs it's own discussion topic so we can toss around some ideas and thoughts.

There are a lot of dirt cars that can still race at Can-Am if they don't want to race asphalt. There are AIS racers that would add another 30 or so miles to their drive just to race at the Mills, and may decide against it. If there are too many classes for one night of racing, and the track owners/management don't want to race both Friday and Saturday nights, another option would be to race half the classes one weekend and half the classes the next weekend. It would give each class a weekend off to work on their cars and spend some time with their families away from the track. I think Scott Dinzler even mentioned it before AIS closed, but that idea was to give each class one night off per month. The idea I am talking about would give teams a week on and a week off, alternating all season.

It's just a way to accomodate more classes at one track, one night a weekend. Maybe those low budget or no budget teams could use a week off every other week to save money on the commute.

This isn't THE answer... it's just an option if too many classes are wanted by the drivers because of money they already have tied up in their cars or trucks.

This is the place to think out loud. What are your thoughts?

We need to make sure we have a class for nothing but 1988 Ford Escorts with automatic transmissions with no working second or 9th gears. Motors will remain stock, but may be blue-printed and balanced, blowers will be allowed. Porting ok. Roller rockers ok. All motors must have between 159,984 and 159,996 miles on them at the END of each Feature. These cars should be raced Wednesdays before noon on a green track only. 834 lap features.

Cages must be constructed OUTSIDE of the stock Ford body, and must not connect directly to the frame in any location. Cage to be costructed from water pipe only removed from homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Fuel cells are allowed, but 55 gallon drum formerly containing high-fructose corn syrup is highly recommeded.

Two-way radios allowed. Only 1 spotter permitted; must always have one hot dog in left hand and drink Colt 45 from a brown paper bag (it's a family sport) in the right hand. Minimum of four (4) Colt 45 40 oz. bottles and four (4) hot dogs with Food Club spicy brown mustard must be consumed by each spotter before the end of each feature.

Duct tape numbers only. Cars will be painted in safety-orange or lime-green only. Cars not painted in green or orange will weigh an additional 74.3 pounds. Right rear wheel working brakes only.

This class is the hottest motorsports trend in New Brunswick, the hub of circle track racing in North America. I would hate to see Evans Mills miss the boat on this deal. Any other suggestions for our new class??
...If it ain't broke, I haven't touched it yet...

I think Matt has been reading too many of Steve Burton's posts... That took a lot of thought :) The sad part is that it would almost work at the most redneck tracks in the country. I'm thinking Mississippi...?

Randy,

I'm very sorry to hear your news. Please don't worry about anything but your family right now. They need you. Please, if there's anything any of us can do, just ask.
